In a shocking incident that unfolded in Tijuana, a 26-year-old American citizen, Logan Matthew Kelley, was arrested on Wednesday night for the alleged murder of a 19-year-old female employee at the Adelita nightclub in the city's Zona Norte.
Kelley, originally from Ohio according to Tijuana police, stands accused of approaching the victim from behind and fatally slashing her throat with a knife, later recovered at the crime scene. The victim, identified as Isis Atalia Montoya Romero, worked at the strip club and bar. Adelita Bar, in operation since 1962, bills itself as the "most traditional and famous gentlemen's club in Tijuana."
Witnesses reported that the victim had been engaged in conversation with another man in the hallway of a nearby motel when the suspect approached from behind, wielding what appeared to be a folding knife with a 4 to 6-inch blade. The murder weapon had a distinctive graphic and an image of an assault rifle engraved on the handle, as shown in the images released by the police at the scene.
This tragic incident marks the 223rd homicide in Tijuana so far in 2021, shedding light on the ongoing violence in the city, located just south of San Diego.
While some Spanish-language media outlets initially identified the suspect as a United States Marine, a spokesperson for the U.S. Marine Corps' media operations chief stated that there is no record of the individual having served in the Marines.
